Adulting
Adulting (v): to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown ups.
Used in a sentence: Jane is adulting quite well today as she is on time for work promptly at 8am and appears well groomed.
Adulting may be one of the most annoying trending terms of 2017, however, it's sadly realistic. Some of the responsibilities and milestones associated with becoming an adult are things we all take pride in at one point or another and although it is an annoying reality, taking care of these responsibilities becomes oddly satisfying. A lot of times people display the glamorous side to "adulting" such as buying a new car or house, or getting a hefty tax return but there is a side to adulting that we don't speak about for very good reasons. Often we, as grown ups, even try to block out these unspeakable responsibilities almost as though they don't exist. The following is a list of 11 things that nobody tells you about adulting:
1. Being broke doesn't mean you don't have money, it means you have more important things to pay for
2. Home decor stores become the equivalent to candy stores at some point
3. Nobody really knows what they're doing, some people are just good at acting like they do
4. There will come a time when you realize social media is never ever ever a valid indication of beauty, popularity, wealth, organization, etc. etc. etc.
5. Checking your emails multiple times a day will become more important than checking your Twitter, Instagram and Facebook feeds
6. Getting asked for ID is not the slightest bit flattering, its downright annoying
7. Finding a consistent sleep schedule is not only pure bliss but is becomes mandatory because sleeping in past 8am is a luxury not a right
8. "Laundry day" is a myth, laundry is never-ending and could easily be done daily
9. Your parents become real people, and your mom was right about everything (Mom, if you're reading this, don't take it to your head)
10. Wine doesn't all of a sudden taste good when you become legal, it's most certainly an acquired taste
11. In the time it took for you to check all of your social media feeds, you probably forgot to pay a bill
